The FSP hosted its 46th Annual Pathology Conference on February 14-16 in Orlando, Florida. The society welcomed over 250 pathologists and 100 industry supporters for one of its most successful meetings to date.
The first day of the conference kicked off with an educational symposium hosted by Moffitt Cancer Center where key faculty members from Moffitt presented on bone marrow pathology, breast pathology, GI pathology and thoracic pathology.
The FSP was fortunate to have an impressive cadre of faculty at the conference. Ricardo Lloyd, MD, PhD provided important updates in thyroid pathology and led an interactive microscopy session on Friday. Rhonda K. Yantiss, MD presented three lectures on GI pathology on Saturday morning. On Sunday, Jeffrey Myers, MD gave two riveting lectures on lung pathology followed by an interactive microscopy session on challenges in lung pathology.

In addition, there were several breakout read slide sessions on Friday and Saturday allowing attendees to receive even more education in a more intimate environment. These breakout sessions were led by Florida local expert faculty including Diane Davey, MD (Cytology) Andre Pinto, MD (Endometrium), Juan Hernandez-Prera, MD (Head and Neck pathology) and Jesse Kresak, MD (Frozen Section on Neuropathology).
The FSP hosted a Digital Poster Hall with over 40 posters on display on Friday and Saturday during the Conference. The Poster Hall created quite a stir throughout the weekend allowing a unique opportunity for pathologists to share their novel research projects and case studies through an interactive digital display.
The Business Luncheon on Saturday provided FSP members with important society updates including reports from the finance, legislative, membership and nominating committees. Attendees also heard from Patrick Godbey, MD, FCAP, President of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) on an advocacy update from CAP. In addition, Ronald Giffler, MD, current President of the Florida Medical Association (FMA) provided an update on the FMA’s advocacy efforts and his diligent work representing organized medicine in the state of Florida.

FSP President, Morton Levitt, MD presented the FSP Education Chairs, Jim Zhai, MD and Carmen Gomez, MD with an appreciation award for their efforts in planning the FSP’s educational conference. Dr. Levitt then awarded Margaret Neal, MD with the President’s Service Award for her many contributions to the advancement and continued success of the FSP over the last decade under her service.

Residents and fellows were invited to submit their poster to be considered for an oral platform presentation on Saturday, February 15 for the first time this year. The Platform presentations were an opportunity for the residents and fellows to present their unique research while also providing the opportunity to advance their skills in professional speaking. The FSP prides itself on encouraging attendee engagement and networking during the conferences and during the weekend there were many ways to engage with attendees through the Cupid Challenge, a Valentine’s Day themed scavenger hunt. Attendees that completed the challenges had an opportunity to win prizes throughout the weekend. FSP was lucky enough to have a special guest appearance by Mickey and Minnie Mouse at the conference and there was an even a challenge to take a picture with them during the welcome reception on Friday!
The CAP House of Delegates hosted a reception on Saturday evening allowing attendees the opportunity to network with fellow delegates and CAP leadership.
