PECOS Implementation Delayed

On the PECOS Open Door forum, CMS announced on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 that they were delaying implementation of enforcement of registration in the Provider Enrollment Chain and Ownership System (PECOS) from April 5, 2010 to January 3, 2011. This will allow pathologist time to check to insure that all referring providers are registered with PECOS. As of January 3, 2011, any provider that performs a procedure for a provider that is not enrolled in PECOS will not be paid by medicare for the procedure.
