CAP House of Delegates Pilots New Meeting Format

The CAP House of Delegates held its Spring meeting on March 31, 2007, in Frisco, Texas. This meeting pilot-tested a new, more interactive and less formal meeting format including round table discussions and an open question and answer session with the Board. This new format met with high praise from the delegates present. During the round table discussions, the House discussed Pod Labs. The House heard a presentation from David N. Henkes, MD, FCAP, Chair of the Professional Affairs Committee, regarding what a Pod Labs is and how the CAP has been addressing the issue.

Overall, members of the House indicated that over utilization, quality, and ethics were all issues surrounding these arrangements. House members agreed that the College was taking the right course of action against Pod Lab arrangements and encouraged the College to call on them for any action they made need to take in support of CAP activities. During the meeting, the House also heard verbal reports from each of the CAP council chairs and received information on Maintenance of Certification, how the requirements will affect them, and the College’s activities regarding MOC. Finally, the House held a Town Hall meeting during which members of the House could ask questions of the CAP Leadership. Energized from a successful Spring meeting, the House looks forward to CAP’07 at which they will continue to discuss issues of importance to the College, its members, and the practice of pathology. In addition, the House will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary.

The Fall 2007 meeting is scheduled for September 29, 2007 in Chicago, Illinois. For more information on the CAP House of Delegates, contact Shannon Peterson at ext. 7393 or speters@cap.org or Tari McDermand at 800-323-4040, ext. 7260 or tmcderm@cap.org.
